HPV Vaccine

GARDASIL is a vaccine to prevent infection caused by 4 types of the human papillomavirus (HPV). It can help prevent cervical cancer, vulvar/vaginal cancers, cervical dysplasia, and genital warts. There is also Gardasil 9, which prevents infection caused by 9 types of HPV.

GARDASIL is recommended for people of all genders aged 9-26 who are not yet sexually active. This is the age group for which the most research exists. However, you may be able to receive this vaccine if you are older than 26.

There are pros and cons to GARDASIL that you should be aware of so that you can make an informed choice about this vaccine. Therefore, we encourage you to have a discussion with one of our doctors to decide whether it is the best option for you.

If you would like to receive the GARDASIL vaccine, please make an appointment with one of our doctors. They will write you a prescription, which you can fill at the pharmacy. We do not sell GARDASIL at our clinic. It costs approximately $230 per dose, and requires 2 doses. The complete vaccine costs approximately $460. If you are immunocompromised or HIV+, you may be recommended to have 3 doses. Some private health insurance companies will cover GARDASIL. However, Public Health may cover free GARDASIL for men who have sex with men.

Once you pick GARDASIL up, you will need to make another appointment to have one of our doctors give you the injections. GARDASIL must be kept refrigerated, so we recommend that you don’t pick it up until just before you arrive for your appointment.

Please note that a person with a vagina who receives GARDASIL is still recommended to have regular Pap tests.
