HPV Vaccine

GARDASIL is a vaccine to prevent infection caused by 4 types of the human papillomavirus (HPV). It can help prevent cervical cancer, vulvar/vaginal cancers, cervical dysplasia, and genital warts.

GARDASIL is recommended for males and females aged 9-26 who are not yet sexually active. This is the age group that has been researched the most with this vaccine. However, you may be able to receive this vaccine if you are older than 26.

There are pros and cons to GARDASIL that you should be aware of so that you can make an informed choice about this vaccine. Therefore we encourage you to have a discussion with one of our doctors to decide whether it is the best option for you.

If you would like to receive the GARDASIL vaccine, please make an appointment with one of our doctors. She will write you a prescription, which you can fill at the pharmacy (or buy directly at our Centre if you do not have coverage). It costs approximately $140 for each shot, and it takes 3 shots. That means the whole vaccine costs approximately $420. Some private health insurance companies will cover GARDASIL.

Once you pick GARDASIL up, you will need to make another appointment to have one of our doctors give you the injections. GARDASIL must be kept refrigerated, so we recommend that you don't pick it up until just before you arrive for your appointment.

Please note that women who receive GARDASIL are still recommended to have regular Pap tests.
